Sundays

Sundays at 09h30

We gather every week to encourage one another and be encouraged by the truth of God’s word and the salvation we have through Jesus. We proclaim God’s truth, submitting ourselves to it, seeking to be transformed. We collectively worship, not as disconnected individuals but as a community, through music, liturgy, prayer, teaching, and sacraments.

Where do we meet?

We meet at Bergvliet High School on Firgrove Way. Access is via the front gate (on Firgrove Way) and also via the back “hockey” gate (off Fountain Road). When possible, we meet in the school gym/sports hall but occasionally meet in the school’s main auditorium.

School layout

Please see below layout of the school:

3. Toddlers, Grades 1-3 and 4-6

4. Tea and coffee post service (weather permitting)

What time do we start

Our service begins at 09h30 and we usually end around 10:45, after which, we enjoy fellowship and community time over tea/coffee and biscuits.

What should I expect?

We generally have a ‘come as you are’ approach with no particular dress code. We intentionally structure the music, prayers, readings, sacraments and teaching to reinforce the gospel and lead us in genuine worship.

We sit in auditorium-style seating. There are a few people up front who lead the service or pray or read the bible. We sing, led by a music team, and the song words are displayed on a screen. One of our pastors or teachers preaches a sermon for about half an hour. It’s helpful to have a bible, or a bible app on your phone, but not essential.

We typically teach through books of the Bible and always remain rooted in the gospel. The music varies each week, sometimes led by a full band and other times by a single musician. The songs we sing are a mix of hymns and modern worship songs.

If you are not used to church, then just watch everyone else and see what they do! We sit for most of the time but will stand at various points. The service leader will indicate what you need to do at what point. You won’t be expected to do anything you’re not comfortable with.

If you would you like someone to meet you when you arrive, please get in touch with us and we’ll arrange for someone to greet you when you visit.

What about my children?

Jesus loves children, and so do we! That’s why we’re passionate about teaching them about God’s love and grace. Families are invited to attend the Sunday service together, and halfway through, children (from Tots to Grade 9) leave for Sunday School, where they receive age-appropriate, engaging biblical teaching.

We currently group kids into age or grade cohorts to ensure we share the Gospel in an age-appropriate and engaging way. Every Sunday there is a designated teacher and assistant in line with our child protection policy to ensure adequate supervision in the classroom. Class groupings are as follows:

  • Toddlers (aged 3 to grade R)
  • Grade 1-3
  • Grade 4-6
  • Grade 7-9 (Teen Church)
  • Grades 10 and up are encouraged to remain in the main service.

Parents receive a take-home sheet that covers the lesson content and offers discussion questions to explore together as a family. We believe that parents are the primary disciple-makers, and we aim to support and equip them to teach and guide their children with confidence and love.

Please see the school layout under “where do we meet” as a reference.

What if I have a baby or toddler?

Currently, given our facilities and limited space available at the school we don’t have a cry room. We understand that this is a challenge for young families and are looking for practical solutions to address this. In the meantime, you are welcome to keep your infant with you in the service. If your child is a toddler aged 3 or older we have a program for them.
