Sunday, 12 July – Service Content

After kicking off this week’s service with our church Zoom call (link sent out in the WhatsApp group), we can continue with family worship and learning in our homes.

Rahab’s Request

Big idea:
Rahab, an enemy of Israel in Canaan, heard what God had done to rescue his people and asked in faith to be rescued too.

To teach that God graciously saves anyone who asks for mercy and obediently trusts the rescue plan he provides.

The Bible reading for this week is Joshua 1:1-2:24.

Here’s a video for parents to watch as preparation for teaching the younger members of our church this morning:

You can download the printable worksheets here:

And here’s the extended lesson content, including teaching materials, games, videos, and questions.

These are linked in the PDF, but here are a couple of videos covering the content and story from today’s lesson – they work best if you play the games first:

This video isn’t specifically about this week’s lesson, but it’s a great, kid-friendly overview of the story of the Bible:

Memory verse:

Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshipped beyond the River Euphrates and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.

For younger children:

Now fear the Lord and serve him faithfully. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshipped and serve the Lord.

Joshua 24:14 (NIV)

Dear Lord Jesus,

We thank you for this story of Rahab that is recorded in the bible for us to read today that teaches us so much about who you are. Thank you for the reminder that you are a great and powerful God who is ready to save all those who will turn in repentance and faith to you. Thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins so that we could be rescued and be brought into your family.

Thank you for this true story of Rahab and the example that she is to us of faith in action. Please would you help us to show daily that we have placed our faith and trust in you.

When Grace is More Than Grace

Here is the sermon for this week. The Bible reading for this sermon is 2 Corinthians 12:1-10.

If you can’t watch the video or would rather just listen to it, you can play the audio here:

Matt has assembled some music to complement the message from this morning:
